Highlight NYFW: Jeremy Scott Spring/Summer 2013
Controversial is the word I think we can all agree describes Jeremy Scott’s designs, and Mr Scott increased the controversy for his most recent collection shown at NYFW taking his inspiration from the Middle East.
With Paris Hilton and Ryan Lochte spotted on the front row, Scott is known for his young, fun, outrageous designs and obnoxious sneaker collection for Adidas originals (from which Lochte wore an American Flag pair recently) - his pieces are a conversation starter to say the least. Scott crossed boundaries in his S/S 2013 collection, which has most likely sparked whisperings of bad taste inside the fashion industry. The collection’s “Arab Spring” theme featured burkas with leopard print and sprinkled with sequins and a crop top that was adorned with mini dangling, golden machine guns. The collection also debuted Jeremy Scott’s collaboration with New Era on a range of snapbacks, which each of the models wore.
It seems as though controversy and gossip whisperings amongst fashion insiders are what fuel Scott’s creative flow, I get the impression he doesn’t take himself too seriously, which I applaud as that seems to be a rare trait in the fashion industry. Jeremy Scott is an outsider, albeit with a hefty celebrity following, who never fails to get us thinking…and isn’t that what fashion is about?
